What is a Soul Mate?
The idea of having one single soul mate in the world is an incredibly romantic thought. Imagine finding the one person who is made just for you and when intimately connected you each promote the progression of each others soul evolution. But….BIG but….does that mean that there is only one or is it possible that your soul mate could be different people at different times in your life?
We are most accustomed to defining a soul mate as a life long lover, but what if your soulmate has at times been a friend, even a parent or a sibling. Could it have been a stranger you met on the road, someone you reached out to that shed profound insight into your own soul. That being said, what if our soul mates were reflections of ourselves. Like mirrors that showed us not only our imperfections but our strengths and beauty. What if a soul mate was your mirror?
I can believe that some provide a more constructive mirror than others, those that bring out more beauty than flaws. Both are needed at times though and finding someone that reveals you in a way that leaves you feeling loved and safe is special and cherished. If you become more aware of the reflective and revealing dance between too souls though, you increase the opportunity for encountering a soul mate everyday. After all, we’re all connected to each other….that means everyone and not just one perfect match.
I don’t want to de-romanticize the idea of a special love. I believe there are very special relationships that easily bring out the best in both people and show us in constructive and loving ways where we are both perfect and flawed. Those relationships promote soul growth for both people. There are also those relationships that we seem to get sucked into thinking we are soul mates, but only to find out they provided a momentary image of ourselves that we wanted to see but doesn’t serve us long term. There are also those, meant for only a glimpsing moment in our lives as they lock into a reflection that doesn’t grow with us and then becomes stifling. So are soul mates, in the sense of a long term romantic relationship, two people who unknowingly and magically share their mirror space together, unconscious competents or is it possible that two people who share like desires and dreams and some level of natural compatibility CHOOSE to become soul mates by understanding how to bring out the best in each other?
